Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Showdar collects when you use https://showdar.tv (the “Service”), why we collect it, who receives it, how long we keep it and the choices you have.
In short
- You can read every page without an account and without accepting analytics.
- Google Analytics runs only if you click Accept on the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
- If you create an account, we keep your email address, your name and photo if you sign in with Google, and the teams and channels you save.
- We don't sell personal information.
1. Who is responsible for your information
Showdar's Privacy Officer is responsible for protecting the personal information Showdar holds and for answering privacy questions, requests and complaints. You can reach the Privacy Officer at support@showdar.tv. Please put “Privacy” in the subject line.
2. What we collect and why
When you visit any page
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider, Firebase App Hosting on Google Cloud, automatically records basic information about each request: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use these logs to run the Service, keep it secure and fix errors.
- Your time zone. To show game times in your local time, the page reads your device's time zone setting and saves it in your browser. It isn't sent to Showdar's servers or to anyone else, and we don't look up your location from your IP address.
- Team logos. Some team logos load directly from the NHL's, NBA's and MLB's own image servers. Like any server that sends an image, they receive your IP address and browser type.
- Sign-in software. On phones and in Safari, the Firebase Authentication software that runs sign-in loads a small helper from Google (apis.google.com and showdar-3a316.firebaseapp.com) when a page opens, so that signing in works. Google receives your IP address and browser type, even if you never sign in. If your browser allows third-party cookies, it also sends Google any cookies Google has already set.
Analytics, only if you accept
If you click Accept on the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics (through Google's Firebase platform) to learn which pages and features people use, so we can improve the Service. It isn't loaded until you accept. It collects:
- the pages you view, and the page that sent you to Showdar
- what you click or change on Showdar, such as games, teams, favourites, filters, channel choices and links to other websites, and whether you signed in or created an account (the sign-in method, not your email address)
- your type of device, browser and screen
- your general location (city, region and country), which Google estimates from your IP address
Google Analytics links this information to a random identifier stored in your browser. It isn't linked to your name, email address or Showdar account, but it is still personal information, and we treat it that way. We use it only to see how the Service is used. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off for Showdar's Google Analytics, so the data isn't combined with Google account data or used to personalize ads.
If you create an account
An account is optional. It lets you save favourite teams and the channels you get, and keep them on every device you sign in on.
- Email and password. We collect your email address and password. Your password goes directly to Firebase Authentication (Google), which stores it in a scrambled (hashed) form that Showdar can't read. Firebase sends the email that confirms your address and any password-reset email you ask for.
- Sign in with Google. Google shares your name, email address, profile photo and account identifier with Firebase Authentication. Google's own privacy policy applies to your Google account.
- Your account record. In Google Cloud Firestore we keep your account ID, email address, name and profile photo link (if you have them), sign-in method, favourite teams, the channel packages you select, which leagues you show or collapse on the home page, and when the record was created and last updated. Firebase Authentication also records when you created your account and when you last signed in.
We use this information to sign you in, keep your saved teams and channels, and reply to you about your account if needed.
When you email us
We receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply and to fix any errors you report.
Commission links (none today)
Showdar has no links that earn us a commission (affiliate links) today. If we add them, they will be labelled. When you click one, you leave Showdar for the partner's website (for example Amazon). The partner or its affiliate network (such as Amazon Associates, Impact or Partnerize) may use cookies on its own website to credit Showdar for a sign-up or purchase, and its privacy policy applies there. We don't receive your name, contact details or payment details from them. If you accepted analytics, Google Analytics also records that you clicked the link.
5. Information stored outside Quebec and Canada
Google, the league image servers and any commission partners may store or process information outside Quebec and Canada, including in the United States. The laws there may differ from Canadian law, and authorities there may be able to access the information under their own laws.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account: while it exists. If you ask us to delete it, we delete your Firebase Authentication account and your account record within 30 days.
- Google Analytics: detailed event data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics account, at most 14 months. Reports that show only totals may be kept longer.
- Technical logs: 30 days, Google Cloud's default.
- Browser storage: until you clear it, or for sign-in data, until you sign out.
- Emails to us: as long as needed to deal with your message.
7. Your choices and rights
- Analytics. Choose Accept or Reject on the cookie banner. To change your choice or withdraw your consent, use “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page. Once you reject analytics, Showdar stops Google Analytics and deletes its cookies and its identifier from your browser (the identifier at the latest the next time you open a Showdar page).
- Your account. You can change your favourite teams and channels at any time, and sign out at any time. Deleting your account withdraws your consent for your account data.
- Access, correction, a copy and deletion. You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask for a copy in a commonly used format, or ask us to delete your account and its data. Email the Privacy Officer at support@showdar.tv, from the address on your account if you have one. We reply within 30 days.
- Complaints. If you aren't satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (if you live in Quebec) or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
8. Security
The Service uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Account data is stored with Google Firebase, and access to it is limited to the people who run Showdar. No way of sending or storing data is completely secure. If a privacy incident creates a risk of serious harm, we will tell the people affected and the authorities, as the law requires.
9. Children
Showdar isn't directed at children under 14, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact the Privacy Officer and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We will post any change on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If a change affects how we use information we already have, we will ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
