NHL on Prime Video in Canada (2026-27): Schedule, Price & How to Watch
Updated 26 sources
The short answer
Yes, the NHL is on Prime Video in Canada, on Wednesdays. Prime Video has the exclusive national Wednesday Night Hockey package: 27 regular-season games in 2026-27, one every Wednesday from Sept 30, 2026 to Apr 7, 2027 (except Dec 23, 2026), each with at least one Canadian team.
Every game is in English and French at no extra cost with Amazon Prime: $9.99/month or $99/year (as of October 2026, plus tax). You watch in the Prime Video app or a web browser.
The games aren't on Sportsnet, TSN or Sportsnet+. Prime Video also has three Stanley Cup playoff series a year (two first-round, one second-round).
What is Wednesday Night Hockey on Prime Video?
Prime Video has the exclusive national Wednesday Night Hockey package in Canada, in English and French, included with a Prime membership. Amazon calls its coverage “NHL on Prime”. It is a 12-year sublicence that runs from 2026-27 to 2037-38, and its first game was Sept 30, 2026: the Islanders at the Maple Leafs.
The games come from Rogers. Its 12-year, C$11 billion deal covers all national NHL rights in Canada, in every language, from 2026-27 through 2037-38, and lets Rogers sublicense games. Rogers sublicensed Wednesday nights (plus three playoff series a year) to Prime Video and a French-language national package to TVA Sports. The rest of the English national schedule stays with Sportsnet, including Saturday Night Hockey and Monday Night Hockey.

Is NHL on Prime free? What it costs
NHL on Prime isn't free on its own, but it costs nothing on top of Prime: Amazon says Wednesday Night Hockey is available at no additional cost to Prime members in Canada. Prime Video is included with an Amazon Prime membership.
Amazon Prime in Canada
| Membership | Price | Wednesday Night Hockey |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Prime, monthly | $9.99/month | Included, English and French |
| Amazon Prime, annual | $99/year | Included, English and French |
| Prime for Students & 19–24 year olds | $4.99/month | Included, English and French |
Amazon says its discounted membership for young adults (ages 19 to 24) and college, university and CEGEP students is 50% off and comes with a six-month free trial.
What you don't need
- Sportsnet+ or a TV package: the Wednesday games aren't on Sportsnet, TSN or Sportsnet+.
- A TVA Sports subscription for French: the French broadcasts are included with Prime. TVA Sports Direct is also sold as a Prime Video Channel, but that is a separate subscription, billed by Amazon.
- A separate NHL product: the 27 Wednesday games and Prime Video's playoff series are part of Prime.
For the other nights you'll need Sportsnet or Sportsnet+ and, for some teams, TSN. How to watch the NHL in Canada compares every option with prices.
How to watch NHL on Amazon Prime Video in Canada
- Get Amazon Prime ($9.99/month (as of October 2026, plus tax)), or Prime for Students & 19–24 year olds if you qualify.
- Get the Prime Video app on your device. Amazon says it's available on a range of televisions, Amazon devices, mobile devices, Blu-ray players, games consoles and streaming media devices.
- Or use a computer. Prime Video plays in a current version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari or Opera, and live streaming works in the browser.
- Sign in with your Amazon account. Some devices show a QR code to scan with your phone, or a code to enter on Prime Video's Register a Device page.
- Open Prime Video at game time. Coverage can start before the scheduled game time, so check the schedule above.
Wednesday Night Hockey in French
Every Wednesday game is available in English and French at no additional cost to Prime members in Canada. The French broadcast is a first for Prime Video. All French broadcasts are produced on site and in studio in collaboration with TVA Sports: Alain Crête, Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre and Marc-André Perreault are on site for all seven Canadiens regular-season games, and the studio panel works from the TVA Sports studio in Montréal.
The games still stream on Prime Video, not on TVA Sports. TVA Sports has its own 12-year French-language national sublicence: up to 350 regular-season games, including 32 Canadiens games, on TVA Sports and TVA Sports Direct. Canadiens and Senators regional games in French are on RDS.
Who calls the games: Prime Video's NHL broadcast team
In English
NHL on Prime is produced fully on site in English by Prime Sports. John Forslund calls play-by-play, with Adnan Virk, Andi Petrillo and Christine Simpson, and an analyst crew of Hockey Hall of Famer Chris Pronger, Jody Shelley, Blake Bolden, Thomas Hickey, Shane Hnidy and Tyson Nash.
In French
Alain Crête leads the French broadcast, with Michaël Roy, Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre, Guillaume Latendresse, Jean-Sébastien Giguère, Maxime Lalonde and Marc-André Perreault.
National games, not regional ones
Prime Video's Wednesday games are national broadcasts: Amazon says they are available exclusively on Prime Video in Canada, and NHL schedule data lists no other Canadian broadcaster for them. On those nights the game isn't on your team's usual regional channel (TSN or Sportsnet) or on Sportsnet+.
Not every Wednesday game is on Prime Video, though. Prime Video has one national game each Wednesday. Canadian teams also play other Wednesday games outside the package, and NHL schedule data lists those on TSN, Sportsnet or Sportsnet+ feeds. Check your team's page: Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Senators, Jets, Oilers, Flames or Canucks.
Regional blackouts apply to regional games: in TSN's words, “NHL broadcast rules require regional blackouts to be enforced on all streaming devices, just like traditional cable TV.” Prime Video's Wednesday games are national games, not regional ones, and Amazon's announcements don't mention regional restrictions. How regional games work is in our NHL blackouts guide.
Stanley Cup playoff series on Prime Video
Prime Video also has exclusive rights in Canada to select Stanley Cup playoff series: two first-round series and one second-round series a year, at no extra cost to Prime members.
- In English: Sportsnet carries the rest of the playoffs, and the English Stanley Cup Final is exclusive to Sportsnet.
- In French: TVA Sports has 6 of the 8 first-round series, 3 of the 4 second-round series, the conference finals and the Stanley Cup Final.
Amazon's 2026 announcements describe the playoff rights by round, not by series, so check the NHL schedule once the playoffs begin: it lists the channel for every game.
